Highlights in the Kavango Region
The Kavango region offers a variety of attractions and activities for visitors. Mahango National Park is a major highlight, known for its wildlife and scenery. Buffalo Park is a lesser-known spot that’s well worth exploring. Visiting Rundu, the region’s capital, is recommended not just for shopping but also to experience local life. Nearby, the Living Museum of the Mbunza provides a fascinating insight into the culture and traditions of the Kavango people.

Khwe Living Museum
The Khwe Living Museum gives visitors a genuine look into the traditional hunter-gatherer lifestyle of the San people. Through cultural demonstrations, guests can watch traditional dances, learn about the Khwe’s spiritual beliefs, and explore the historical way of life of this unique group from northeastern Namibia.

Mahango National Park
Mahango Game Park, officially called the Mahango Core Area, is located on the western side of the Okavango River along the C48 road, near the Popa Falls. Though relatively small at 245 km², it is rich in wildlife and scenic beauty. The park is part of the Bwabwata National Park, which was established in 2007.

Mbunza Living Museum
Around 14 kilometers west of Rundu lies the Living Museum of the Mbunza—a unique cultural site and community project. It serves as both a traditional learning center and a source of income for the local Kavango people. This sustainable initiative helps preserve their cultural heritage while supporting the community economically.
